1What cookies are
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so that something can be remembered between one page and the next. Some are set by the site you are on; others are set by a service the page has borrowed something from, like a map.
This site is a set of plain pages. There is no login and no basket, so there is nothing about you it needs to remember from one visit to the next. What it does set is described below, and that is the whole list.
2Google Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits. It is there to answer questions like which treatment pages people actually read, whether anyone finds the Hollywood clinic page, and whether a page is broken on phones — not to identify you.
It sets two cookies in your browser:
- _ga — tells one browser apart from another, so two page views in a row are counted as one visit rather than two visitors. Expires after 2 years.
- _ga_FVENFKJX1E — keeps the state of the current visit, so the visit has a start and an end. Expires after 2 years.
What Google receives is which page you looked at, roughly where in the country you are, and what kind of device and browser you used. Your IP address is used to work out that rough location and is not stored. None of it is used for advertising, none of it is sold, and none of it is joined up with your patient records — those are a separate matter, covered by the privacy policy.
3Maps and online booking
Two things on the site are borrowed from another company, and those companies set their own cookies when the page they are on loads:
- Google Maps — the maps on the clinic, home-visit and contact pages.
- Rushcliff (PPS) — the online booking system embedded on the booking page, which needs its own cookies to hold your place while you pick an appointment.
Those cookies are set by Google and Rushcliff, under their own terms, and are not readable by this site.
4Turning them off
Every browser can block or clear cookies, usually under Settings → Privacy. Google also publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics (opens in new tab) on every site you visit.
Blocking all of these will not stop you reading the site, and it has no bearing whatsoever on your care. The map and the booking screen belong to other companies, though, so they may not work properly without theirs — you can always book by phone instead.
5Changes, and asking about this
This page is updated whenever what the site sets changes, and the version shown here is the current one. It will be filled out further in time.
